Materials needed
DK yarn in black, white, dress colour A (darker), dress colour B (lighter) and shoe colour (optional – I used one of the dress colours)
3.5 mm hook
8 or 10 mm safety eyes
Polyfiber stuffing
Stitch marker (for crocheting in the round)
You can make these bears in one colour or with stripes. If you make them in one colour, simply ignore the change colour directions from dress colour A to B or vice versa.
Start by making the eye patches and the nose. You use the same pattern for both.
Eye patches
(with black) – make 2
8 sc in magic ring
ss in first sc
Insert the eyes through the center of the patch.
Nose
(with black)
8 sc in magic ring

Head
R1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)
R2: (4 sc in first st, sc in next 2) x 2 (12)
R3: sc in each (12)
R4: sc x 2, (inc, sc) x 3, sc x 4 (15)
R5: sc x 2, (inc, 2) x 3, sc x 4 (18)
R6: sc x 2, (inc, 3) x 3, sc x 4 (21)
R7: sc x 2, (inc, 4) x 3, sc x 4 (24)
R8: (inc, 3) x 6 (30)
R9: (inc, 4) x 6 (36)
R10-11: sc in each for 2 rounds (36)
Insert safety eyes with the patches. To determine the position for the left eye, count 12 sts to the right from where you are, then follow 4 rounds down. Insert right eye 8 sts apart. Sew patches to head. Sew nose just above the initial magic ring, folding it in a bit, so that it looks more like an oval than like a circle. Embroider mouth. Make a secure knot on the inside and trim the remaining black yarn. I find that if you simply leave it inside, it sometimes shows through the white stitches.
R12-13: sc in each for 2 more rounds. (36)
R14: (dec, 4) x 6 (30)
R15: sc in each (30)
R16: (dec, 3) x 6 (24)
